Gaps in the System: Homelessness, Mental Health and Addictions in Northern Ontario

Regional experts in Northern Ontario were interviewed in the Spring of 2022 to understand the challenges and opportunities in five areas: food security, immigration-migration, physician recruitment, post-secondary education, and homelessness, mental health and addiction. Regarding homelessness, mental health, and addictions, experts suggested concentrating on addressing the lack of affordable housing, improving the transition between rehabilitation services or correctional facilities to life in society, and implementing a more collaborative approach with shared electronic records for an encompassing delivery of services.
