Data 101
Good decision makers aspire to make evidence-based decisions. In many cases, however, they lack the skills and experience to find the data they need or to put it to the most effective use. Or they lack the resources required to support the needed analysis on a timely basis. Northern Policy Institute can help.
Training Sessions – Data & Data Tools 101
Our analysts will visit communities throughout the North to teach community leaders how to find and use data. Working from a set of scenarios, such as “where do we put our new hospital?” or “do we even need a new hospital?”, we will work with community members to navigate the sea of data available to them. These sessions will build local capacity so communities can make informed decisions going forward.
Where possible we ask host communities to cover travel, meal and accommodation costs for the analyst involved. We also ask for a small honorarium of $250. Alternative arrangements can be made on a case by case basis.

Trends Impacting You – Community Presentations
Evidence-based analysis is key to solid decision making, but in Ontario’s western and northern regions it is often hard to access data at a truly local level or to find the time to draw local, regional, national and even international data together to tell a comprehensive and comprehendible story related to your community or your business. Our analysts will visit communities throughout the North to help you tell your story. Starting with data we are able to collect and working through an interactive session with local community members and partners, NPI can help you understand where you fit in the global economy so that you can decide where you want to go.
