ADVANTAGE NORTH - with Al McDonald
On Thursday 3 April 2025 in Toronto, Northern Policy Institute will host its annual State of the North Fundraiser. Over 200 senior private and public sector leaders will join the Institute to hear this year's featured speaker, Al McDonald.
Al moved to North Bay from Goose Bay, Labrador when he was 16. His dad was a CF 101 pilot. Al himself is a serial entrepreneur, three term Mayor, MPP, Citizen of the Year, twice Newsmaker of the Year – he is a North Bay success story who started with just 100 dollars in his pocket and turned that into 7 successful start-ups. Al is a proud promoter of North Bay and Northern Ontario. He will be exploring Northern Ontario's Advantage – affordable housing, good jobs, quality education, solid health care, expanding transportation, and reliable infrastructure – a competitive blend of a great quality of life and an affordable cost of living.
The dress code for the evening is business formal. Cash bar available

About STATE OF THE NORTH
Each year, Northern Policy Institute provides an update on the state of Ontario's northern regions. We use a set of environmental, social, and economic indicators that are selected in partnership with our regional partners. During the pre-dinner reception and throughout the evening we will share key facts about northern Ontario with attendees, and each attendee gets a copy of NPI's latest State of the North “Report Card”. After the event the report card is also directly distributed to all Ontario MPPs, Northern Ontario MPs, federal and provincial deputy ministers, federal party leaders, northern Ontario Chiefs, and northern Ontario Mayors.

About Northern Policy Institute
Northern Policy Institute is Northern Ontario's independent, evidence-driven think tank. We perform research, analyze data, and disseminate ideas. Our mission is to enhance Northern Ontario's capacity to take the lead position on socio-economic policy that impacts our communities, our province, our country, and our world.
We believe in partnership, reconciliation, collaboration, communication, and cooperation. Our team seeks to do inclusive research that involves broad engagement and delivers recommendations for specific, measurable action. Our success depends on our partnerships with other entities present in or passionate about Northern Ontario.
Our permanent locations are in Thunder Bay and Kirkland Lake. During the summer months, we have satellite offices in other regions of Northern Ontario staffed by teams of Experience North placements. These placements are for university and college students working in your community on issues important to you and your neighbours.
