Magnetic North: Attraction, Retention, and Reconciliation: Priorities for a Prosperous Northern Ontario

This report summarizes the findings and priority actions from Northern Policy Institute’s 2022 Magnetic North Conference. Priority actions were established through discussions among attendees regarding best practices and next steps for anti-racism, reconciliation, migrant attraction and population retention initiatives and efforts within Northern Ontario.
More specifically, conference participants engaged with various panels, presentations, and breakout sessions over two days, which included topics such as cross-cultural perspectives, Indigenous innovation, supporting diverse groups, and building welcoming communities.
This report details the conference proceedings and focuses on concrete next steps for Northern Ontario individuals, employers, organizations, and government agencies. It provides an in-depth list of action items to increase community welcomeness throughout Northern Ontario’s regions.
