Getting from Here to There: Transportation Infrastructure in Northern Ontario

here-to-there-and-everywhere-graphics-20

The transportation network is a critical asset to sparsely populated and geographically vast regions such as those of Northern Ontario. It connects these regions to the rest of the country and each other, supporting the movement of goods, access to and delivery of services, and the general well-being of residents. But how is this network distributed? Do its gaps incur socioeconomic impacts? How can this network be improved, and which investments are a priority? These and other questions are answered by the Getting from Here to There series of reports from Northern Policy Institute, written by Julien Bonin. The first report outlines the costs and challenges of transportation infrastructure in the regions of Northern Ontario. The second identifies service gaps and provides policy recommendations. The third determines transportation “hot spots” as priorities for investments and lays down the next steps for future studies.
